Flying to the UK

If flying in to the UK we would recommend that Southampton or Heathrow are best options for ease of travel to Southampton city centre.

Southampton Airport:
Southampton airport has 13 airlines/tour operators serving around 48 destinations. For details on the routes served visit www.southamptonairport.com or Tel: +44 (0)844 481 7777. From the airport a taxi is the fastest option though there is a direct bus service that leaves the airport and goes directly to the NOCS. Visit www.unilinkbus.co.uk

Heathrow Airport:
If flying in to Heathrow airport, and you wish to take public transport to Southampton we would recommend that the coach is the fastest route www.nationalexpress.com. Direct coaches take approx 1 hour 35 mins. Either get off at Southampton coach station and take a taxi to the NOCS or ask about changing at Highfield bus interchange and take the public bus directly to the National Oceanography Centre www.unilinkbus.co.uk

If you want to book a taxi we recommend that you avoid taking a Black Cab directly from the airport but instead pre-book a Southampton taxi to pick you up. Black Cabs charge a premium for going outside of the London area. A taxi via a Southampton based taxi company will cost approximately £100 one way. Please see numbers below.

Gatwick Airport:
If you fly in to Gatwick and want to take public transport to Southampton we would recommend that the train is the fastest option www.thetrainline.com. There are some direct trains and it takes less than two hours. You can buy your tickets in advance via the website to secure the best priced tickets.

If you want to book a taxi we recommend you pre-booking a Southampton based taxi company which will cost approximately £115 one way.
