The Association of Marine Scientific Industries
The marine science sector has an increasingly important role to play in international
affairs, particularly in relation to the environment, security and defence, resource
exploitation, and leisure. The marine science “industry” is well established in
the UK and is a major contributor globally, but despite this, its overall size remains
comparatively small and those involved in the industry, including manufacturers,
researchers, and system suppliers, have lacked a coordinated voice at the highest
level, and the ability of members to project their views and capabilities has been
difficult to achieve in isolation. However, as a specialist member of the Society
for Maritime Industries (SMI), with its larger resources and networks, AMSI offers
for the first time, an extremely powerful voice that can be heard at the highest
level. For more information www.amsi.org

The National Oceanography Centre
The National Oceanography Centre, Southampton (NOCS) is one of the world’s leading
oceanographic institutions devoted to research, teaching and technological developments
in ocean science and offers a range of expertise and facilities to conduct global-scale
scientific endeavour. Working with the marine industry is seen as essential to the
Centre, which undertakes collaborative projects with industry, government departments
and agencies worldwide.
